Wild NJ Trout

Went out Sunday in search of some wild trout and was rewarded with a few great looking rainbows, no brookies or browns. Water temp was 40 and flow was perfect. Find the deep pocket water and you would find fish.

The snow made it tough hiking back to the stretch of the stream I wanted to fish.

Stunning. Stocked rainbows are great looking but wild ones are just works of art.

If anyone goes out I recommend handheld hedge clippers cause the thorns are everywhere!

A tungsten beadhead hare's ear nymph tied on a barbless size 16 jig hook. I really like the jig hooks for the small streams, rarely get hung on on bottom.

what hook do you use? something like the Umpqua U-Series U555 Jig Hooks?

BTW, sort of unrelated, I'm in the market for info on the best "stocked rainbow" flies. Down in the land of no native or wild fish, I've had trouble with these NJ hatchery bows on the fly.
So, adding your jig fly to the arsenal but also looking for other's fav bow flies (sorry for the digression, not getting out much makes me loopy and prone to go off-topic)
